In 1995 the website began by being hosted on IIS on Windows NT 3.51. It was only visible on Microsoft's internal network. It then ran on Windows NT 4.0, perhaps the best release of Windows ever.
In 1999 when I retired I then moved this site to NWLink.com, and then over a few years it moved around more, to ATTBI.com, then Comcast.com, and then Earthlink.net.
In 2005 I began hosting the site on my own Macs at my house, using Mac OS X and the built-in Apache web server. This included getting my own domain name, kind of: danallen46.homeunix.org.
In 2014 I moved this site to BSDVM.com, an external cloud provider, moving the site to a FreeBSD based system. I found a simple web-server in the BSD ports called Boa.
In 2015 I got my own full domain name: dkallen.org.
In 2016 I moved to Vultr.com, another virtual machine in the cloud provider, and I have now been hosting my website from there for almost a decade now. Vultr has great uptime, is inexpensive, and I maintain full control over my VM. I run FreeBSD-14 and I do all of the updates. I still run the Boa web server. Updating the website is done via rsync. Simple.
I am a creature of habit. I really have only had two designs for the site. Up until early 2005 it has just text on the home page, with a Perl CGI script to count visits. Then in 2005 I added a column of random favorite photos and got rid of the CGI script. I added a couple of JavaScript functions! So I am still on my second design. However, the yellow background? That has been here since day one!

P.S. - The scrolling marquee was added just for today, the anniversary. I have never used it before, but it is my nod to the early Internet, when almost everything online was true, and scams were unheard of. I miss those days.
